ELTON LAMAR WOMACK of Hall Summit went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Aug. 10, 2005. The funeral will be held on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at Kilpatrick's Rose-Neath Chapel in Coushatta. Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment with military rites will be held at Holley Springs Cemetery in the Womack Community with BRO. BILL HINES, officiating. DR. WOMACK was the son of the late ALICE LOFTIN and LEM WOMACK. He was born Jan. 1, 1923 and was a graduate of Methvin High School. He earned a B.S. Degree in Agriculture, a Master's in Education Administration and Supervision, and a Doctorate of Secondary Education at Louisiana State University. In 1942, he entered the U.S. Naval Reserve and was activated in 1943. He participated in the D-Day invasion of '45 at Omaha Beach. For his service, he earned the American Theatre Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one bronze star and the World War II Victory Medal. On his return from service, he served as a teacher of mathematics, assistant principal, and basketball and track coach at Hall Summit High School. His teams won the State Championship in 1949, finished in the top eight in 1951, State Runner in 1952, and Semi-finalist in 1956. WOMACK also taught at Coushatta High School, Haughton, St. Vincent Academy, Baptist Christian College and Northwestern State University. He served as the State Supervisor of Mathematics for the Louisiana State Department of Education under Superintendents' DODD, MICHOT, and NIX and was a Mathematic Consultant for Holt, Rhinehart, and Winston Publishing Company. After retiring from education, he worked as a Veteran's Service Office for 23 years serving the parishes of Caddo, Bossier and Red River. WOMACK also served his community as mayor of Hall Summit for 12 years. He was one of the original incorporators of the village and the last surviving of the original aldermen. Throughout the years he was an active member of the VFW Post 7287 and served as Senior Vice Commander and Post Quatermaster. He has been recognized as an All State Quartermaster on two occasions. He was a faithful member of Hall Summit Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years and was a deacon for 43 years. DR WOMACK is survived by his wife of 50 years, HILDA SLACK; and four children: KATHY JONES and husband, TOM of Little Rock, Ar.; JOHN WOMACK of Hall Summit; KENNETH WOMACK and wife ALLENE of Jackson, Ms.; and TINA GOEBEL and husband, KURT, of Elton. He was also the grandfather of seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was a Godly man and a wonderful husband and father. He will be dearly missed until we see him again.
