He was born Feb. 15, 1839 to ISAAC SHEPARD and WINNIFRED ROGERS ELLIOTT in Anson County, North Carolina. The Elliott family emigrated to what was then Natchitoches Parish, La. from Chesterfield, S. C. in the year, 1859. J.M.T. ELLIOTT fought in the Civil War and later served as Sheriff of Red River Parish.
