By the time of the 1880 census his daughter, Sarah E. Archibald, (supposedly married to Burrell Pool) had returned to Alabama, as also had his son Millard Scott Archibald. His daughter, Nancy Alice Archibald, had died May 11, 1877, at Archibald, LA. She was the first wife of Jesse W. Lynn of Richland Parish, who in 1883 married secondly the first cousin of Nancy Alice, Salethia J. Archibald (daughter of Josiah B. Archibald). On July 30, 1879, William Preston, son of James Barnet Archibald, died at the age of twenty-three. He was not married. Both he and Nancy Alice A. Lynn are buried in the Little Creek Cemetery, two miles west of Archibald. As to James Barnet's purpose in migrating to Louisianna, he wanted to purchase some of the flat, fertile land there and he soon began proceedings for the purchase of 240 acres. He and his brother, Josiah Burton, on the same day bought adjoining places in Richland Parish. He cleared the new land, built a home for his family and spent the remainder of his life upon this soil, in the community known as Archibald. James Barnet was instrumental in the formation of the first Alto Presbyterian Church, as revealed in their church records, 1872-1894. He was a charter member of that organization and served in the office of Elder, an position he held the rest of his life. In the part of the church records headed "Deaths of Members of Alto Church" were listed the following members of James Barnet Archibald's family: Alice Lynn, May 11, 1877; Preston Archibald, July 30, 1879; and J. Barnet Archibald, himself, December 1892, being sixty-four years of age. Of the four sons on Thomas Archibald II, Barnet Archibald was the last to expire. He and his brothers, Thomas Theodore and Josiah Burton Archibald, all passed away in the new Louisanna falt lands that had become their homes, and are buried in three separate cemeteries near the town which bears their name. His wife, Dovey Ann Archibald, died in 1895, and they are both buried near other members of the family in the Little Creek Methodist Cemetery, two miles west of Archibald. Their son, James B. Archibald, Jr. died in New Orleans, and is buried there. The four sons of Thomas Archibald Jr. and Sarah F. Luckey were Thomas Theodore, born 17 Nov 1816 in Iredell Co,NC,Robert Washington, born in 1818, Josiah Burton, born 9 May 1824 and James Barnett, born 18 Feb 1828. If there were any daughters in this family, no records have been found.
