The storm struck the vicinity of Archibald, on the line of the New Orleans and Northeastern Railway, at 3:30 p. m. It barely missed that town. All the buildings on W. A. Broughton’s plantation were destroyed. Mr. Sarle’s place share the same fate; two men and one child were killed there and a number wounded, all colored. All the buildings on the Pruitt place were demolished and two Negro children killed. The residence of T. A. Archibald and J. Archibald were totally wrecked, with all of the outbuildings. Other houses badly damaged were those of W. A. McVeigh, D. Bothy, L. M. Montgomery, E. S. Archibald, J. J. Archibald and W. K. Spencer. Miles of fencing and thousands of trees were prostrated. The storm passed from southwest to northeast, and followed the tract of the New Orleans and Northeastern railway for a considerable distance, shutting off traffic over the road beyond Archibald’s for several hours. Dozens of people were slightly injured and bruised, of which no account was taken. The above only recounts the damage in vicinity of Archibald. In the remote places east and west, it is thought incalculable destruction was wrought.
