Sealy, a copy of the Monroe Register, dated May 24, 1861 nearly thirty years ago directed to C.E. Sealy, father of our fellow townsman and near neighbor, R.C. Sealy. It was edited by Dr. W.H. Bradley. We find in this paper a list of the officers and men of the Pelican Grays, among which we had many friends, some of whom are still alive. Ex-Governor McEnery and F.P. Stubbs were lieutenants in this company, and we find a number if names who afterwards became distinguished officers. This company had arrived in New Orlenas April 24th, going down on the J.P. Pargourd, the Gallant Captain J.W. Tobin, having taken this company and the Vienna Rifles down free of charge. We also find a list of the officers of the Ouachita Blues, of which the brave old warrior John McEnery was the captain, and Judge Willis Richardson was a member of the company. What an array of talent, fit to lead armies, we find even among the privates of these two first Ouachita Companies. Every line of this old paper even in the advertisements - is of deep interest to us, because it carries us back in memory to the days of long ago, when our heart was fired with intense patriotic zeal and profound faith in the " Lost Cause" which friends, some of whom are still alive Ex-Governor McEnery and F.P. How sweetly sad are the recollections which cling round the stirring avents of that lang syne, when we too felt the same confidence in our "cause" as is expressed in the columns of the Register. But, alas! how sadly were disappointed. However, fondly we could dwell on these thoughts, but we are admonished that our younger readers arenot so much interested in them and must desist.
