Hardy, of north of Rayville, died at her home after a long illness on last Sunday night, and was buried at the Little Creek graveyard Monday afternoon. Besides the devoted husband, she leaves of the immediate family to mourn her loss, two sons, James E. and Ben F. Hardy, and a daughter, Mrs. P.W. Chambers, as well as a brother, Mr. E.F. Justice, and a host of admiring friends. Mrs. Hardy was about 58-60 years of age at the time of her death, and while she has not been in robust health for a number of years, she was not taken seriously ill until a few weeks ago. She remained sometime in a sanitarium in Vicksburg and despairing of relief there, returned to be at home with those whom she loved and for whom she had devoted her life with such unselfishness and devotion. Mrs. Hardy was a noble, Christian lady who held first rank in her community in all work for the church and for humanity. She was the first in the home whenever distress invaded there, and always brought comfort and cheer wherever she went. We believe that we can say that without reservation that few women ever held a higher place in the estimation of those who knew her, and few people ever assisted in driving away more sorrow and drying more eyes dimmed by tears of trouble and adversity than she. To say that her presence will be missed but feebly expresses the void felt by a community bowed down with sorrow. We hope the members of the bereaved family may take comfort in the absolute consciousness of the reward which awaits such as she who has been one of God’s servants in his vineyard. Our sympathy is extended to the sorrowing family.
