Griffis III Funeral services for Charles B.Pete" Griffis III were held July 24 at Grace Presbyterian Church with Dr.Edward Carver, pastor, officiating. Graveside services followed at the Atkins Family Cemetery in Athens under the direction of Martin and Castille Funeral Home. Mr. Griffis died July 20. He is survived by his wife, Linda Lalande Griffis; his mother, Ruth Ellen Griffis of Rayville; a sister, Lalla Mangin and her husband, Albert of Atlanta, GA.; two nephews, Michael Mangin and his wife Rhoda and Charles Mangin all of North Carolina; his cousins, Charles Walter Cochran, James Cooper Cochran, Lillian Chenoweth, Jenny Lou Bird,Joe T. Reeves III, Sam D. Reeves, Frances Griffis, Jim Griffs, Ed Griffis, and Anne Spyker. He was preceded indeath by his father. A native of Rayville, Pete had been a resident of Lafayette since 1981 and had practiced law as a partner in the law firm of Liskow and Lewis since that time. Pete graduated from Tulane University, magna cum laude, in 1973, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He subsequently received his masters degree in history from Louisiana State University and taught high school and coached track in New Orleans. Thereafter, Pete attended Tuland Law School, Pete was selected to be a member of the Tulane Law Review and Order of the Coif. Following law school. Pete clerked for the Honorable Walter Marcus on the Louisiana Supreme Court before joining Liskow and Lewis in 1981. Pete was recognized throughout the state as an expert in mineral law and oil and gas regulation and he participated in numerous lawsuits over his career involving oil and gas contracts and orders of the Commissioner of Conservation. He was a member of the Lafayette Parish Bar Association, the Louisiana Bar Association and the American Bar Association and was very active in the Louisiana Independent Oil and Gas Association. Outside the practice of law, Pete and Linda were very active in the affairs of their church and Pete had numerous interests,especially reading, history and music. He loved sports and was an avid follower of Louisiana high school atheletics. Pallbearers were Edward A. Griffis, Michael Mangin, Charles Mangin, Dr.Pete Dollan, Dr. Alan Wild, and George Denegre Jr. Honorary pallbearers were members of Liskow and Lewis. The family requests that donation in Pete's memory be made to Grace Presbyterian Church, 518 Roselawn Boulevard, Lafayette, La. 70503.
