All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** * Cecil Moore Longtime resident and native of Richland Parish, Cecil Moore79, died in the early hours of April 12, 2001, after a lengthy illness. Friends and relatives will recall Mr. Moore as a fun loving family man, always willing to lend a hand and involved in many local activities in the Start area. Mr. Moore served in the Army during World War II and was employed with South Central Bell as a telephone lineman for 19 years after leaving the service. He retired after 20 years from the School Board as a bus driver for Start elementary and high schools, during which time he also farmed and “raised hogs” full time. Mr. Moore was an avid bowler in his early years, and was ranked at the top of his league. In addition, he served on the boards of several committees and associations. During his time as a bus driver at Start,he made countless friends among children of all ages, as well as their parents, and was regularly involved in their field trip and athletic activities, earning a special place in their hearts. As the owner of a thriving and successful “hog farm,” he and his sons won many awards, earning the business a feature in “The Progressive Farmer" for his achievements. While Mr. Moore has been unwell for many years, he never lost his love and interest in his friends and family, securing for himself a place in many hearts and lives. He touched us all in some way with his sense of humor and ready smile,always with a joke or hug…always special. Mr. Moore is preceded in death by his parents, Armor and Ada Moore, as well as his beloved wife, Vesta. He leaves behind a brother, Almon “Bill” Alford and his wife, Dean, and a nephew, Steve. His sons,Doug and David were with him when he died, as they always were during his life. The eldest, Doug and his wife, Georgia were blessed in providing him with two granddaughters, Megan and Ashley, while his youngest son, David and his wife, Dianne, made him the proud grand-father of Chad and Kyle. He leaves behind many loving relatives and friends of countless number. He will be remembered often in our hearts and thoughts. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. April 14, 2001 at the Start Baptist Church, with the pastor, the Rev. Jeff Smart, officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Durward Beardon, Jackie Lee Henry, Harlan Moore, Jerry Smith, Danny Sledge, and Larry Butler. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Start-Girard Fire Department. If a memorial tribute is desired in lieu of flowers, Mr. Moore was a regular contributor to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home as well as Boys’ Town USA.
