Ball Sr., 85, of Rayville, LA will be at 10:00 AM Friday, July 12, 2002 at Rayville United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Townsend officiating. Burial will be in Union United Methodist Church Cemetery, Charlieville, LA under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Rayville, LA. Dr. Ball passed away July 9, 2002 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was a member of Rayville United Methodist Church, Methodist Men and a long time member of the Rayville Kiwanis. He served the community of Richland Parish as a family physician for over 50 years. He began his practice in August, 1947 in partnership with Dr. J. C. Ellington at Ball & Ellington Clinic. He was also one of the four founding physicians of the first hospital in Richland Parish. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Ainsley Ball and Lucille Lyles Ball; his wife, Mary M. Noble Ball; and brothers, J. A. Ball and Eugene W. Ball. Survivors include one son, Dr. James E. Ball, Jr. and wife Melissa of Knoxville, TN; four daughters, Bena Ball of Bartow, FL, Rosemary Lestage and her husband David of DeRidder, LA, Vicki Fruge' and her husband David of Sunset, LA, and Susan Smart and her husband Jeff of Rayville, LA; one sister, Gwendolyn Ball Vaughn of Monroe, LA; and 16 grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Charlie Noble, Glen Murphy, Glenn Richardson, Charles Whitehurst, Jay Ball, and Charles Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Jo Lyles, Elwyn Campbell Lyles, Bubba O'Neal, and Billy Stodghill. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Rayville United Methodist Church or Richland Parish Library.
