Self, age 70 went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 11, 2004, after a long battle with Heart Disease. The Self family moved to North Richland Parish, from Vernon Parish in 1947 and began farming. He continued his love for farming until his health declined. Farming was one of his loves, but he loved the Lord, his church, family and deer hunting. He had the privilege to raise his daughter, Vivian, from his marriage to Dorothy Louise Coates, and then he married his present wife, Catherine Gregory Self, to raise Amanda, Bruce and Rachelle. Not many of us are close enough to God to complete this task. Dunnam was born May 5, 1934 to the late Oscar and Lucy Hayman Self. He was preceded in death by Roland Self, brother, Rachelle Stewart Self, daughter, Toney Poole, brother-in-law: A. L. "Hawk" Bonner; brother-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Gregory Self of Holly Ridge; daughters, Vivian Garsee of Rayville and Amanda Holmes and husband, James of Swartz, LA; son, Bruce Stewart and wife, Terri of Holly Ridge, LA; granddaughter, Amy Boyte and husband, Michael of Oak Grove; grandson, Hunter Stewart of Holly Ridge; great grandson, Tucker Boyte of Oak Grove; brother, Pink Self and wife, Patsy of Holly Ridge; sister, Janice Bonner of Oak Grove, Edith Poole of Kilbourne, Ann Bonner and husband, Don of Bastrop, Evelyn Brown and husband, Hershel of Pineville, LA, June Cockerham Ryman and husband, Elmer of Bay City, TX. Funeral services are 2:00 PM Saturday, November 13, 2004 at Richland United Pentecostal Church, Holly Ridge with Rev. Wayne Allen and Rev. William Carrington, and Rev. Floyd Duchesne officiating. Burial will follow in Loch Arbor Cemetery, Swartz, LA, under the direction of Brown Holley Funeral Home, Rayville, LA. Visitation will be Saturday 11:00 AM until service time at the church. Pallbearers will be Leo Whitstine, Deryl Caston, Thomas Jones, Scott Self, Rusty Riels, and David Cater. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Carter Cox Jr., and Robert "Bobby" Stanley.
