Perkins, 76, of Rayville, LA, Saturday, June 3, 2006 at 11:00AM, at the Greater Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Mangham, LA. Wake services will be Friday, June 2, 2006, from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at the First Baptist Church in Rayville, LA under the direction of Tennant Funeral Home. Sis. Emily Harris Perkins was born to the late Monroe Harris, Jr. and Mary Collins Harris on April 4, 1930 in Rayville, LA. She was the wife of the late Rev. Dr. Frederick Douglas Perkins. She was the mother of two; Cynthia Perkins Thornton and Renee Perkins. She accepted Christ as her personal saviour in 1946 at the Greater Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. James A. Franklin in Mangham, LA where she served as a faithful member. Mrs. Perkins achieved the following accomplishments in the area of education: a Master's degree from Northeast Louisiana University (ULM); a B.S. Degree Southern University of Baton Rouge, LA; she received her high school and elementary education from Rayville Rosenwald School and Delhi Training School in Delhi, LA. After receiving her higher education she worked as an educator in the Richland Parish School System for thirty-eight years. As an educator she believed in teaching discipline, respect for yourself and others, as well as teaching Mathematics with much pride, knowledge and determination. She prepared student for the world of learning and expected them to achieve the unachievable. Some may consider her to be a God sent for the world of Mathematical education. Mrs. Perkins will be dearly missed by many, and was loved and respected by she came in contact with. Gone, but not forgotten, Glory.
