Collings as printed in the Richland Beacon News of November 23, 2000 H.C. Collings Lake Arthur, LA. H. Carroll Collings passed away suddenly Wednesday, November 8, 2000, at Jennings Hospital in Jennings, Louisiana. Mr. Collings(H.C., as he was best know by family and friends) was born at lake Arthur on March 20, 1924, to William Eugene Collings and Lacie Belle Hoffpauir Collings.He was preceeded in death by his parents; a brother, Edwin Collings; and a sister, Joyce Elaine Dornak Survivors include a son, John D. Collings of Lake Arthur, LA; brothers, Archie Collings of Lyons, IN and Robert Louis Collings of Lake Charles, LA; sisters Edith Graeper and Wanda Dean Finch of Houston, TX and Patty DeHaven of Lake Charles, LA; and several nieces and nephews. H.C. graduated from the University of Southwest Louisiana with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in education, from the University of Colorado with a Master of Arts degree in education, and attended Teachers College at Columbia University in New York in a doctorate program for supervision and administration . Mr. Collings teaching career started as the vocal music instructor at Rayville High School, where he is still remembered, continued with high schools in New Orleans, Owego, and Rochester, N.Y., and Hanover, New Jersey. He obtained a Lifetime Teachers Certificate in 1947. At Mississippi State University in Starkville, he was director of activities for several years, and at each of these schools H.C. developed active student choral groups who put on performances such as Gi;bert and Sullivan's HMS Pinafore to a professional quality. His Rayville chorus appeared on WDSU in New Orleans. Many of his students owe much to H.C. for the development and training he passed on to them. In 1966 H.C. made a drastic career change, and served in Viet Nam with the U.S. Agency for International Development as an advisor, managing several groups, including Seabees. He moved on as training specialist working for several companies in Viet Nam, Saudi Arabia,Sri Lanka, Thailand, and the Philippines. H.C. retired several years ago to a sometimes heavy duty activity of remodeling his home on Lake Arthus, the place he started out. He willed himself to the Tulane Medical Center. A memorial service will be planned by the family.
