Mobley caledoniapltn@bayou.com November 25, 2009, 11:05 am West Carroll Gazette November 13, 1941 Mrs. Nancy Lewis Jones aged 104 years, thought by many in this section to be the oldest woman in North Louisiana and possibly the oldest in the entire state,died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. M.C. Cain, who lives north of Oak Grove, Monday afternoon. Funeral, services for the aged matriarch were held Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock and interment was made in a cemetaery near Forest with the Rev. B.H. Lott officiating. Surviving the deceased are her daughter, with whom she made her home in West Carroll for the past several years, and a son, George French of Delhi. A native of Mississippi, the deceased had made her home in West Carroll parish for the past 15 years , remaining active in community activities until a few years ago when her advanced age made it necessary for her to lead a retired life. The definite date of her birth is not know reliatives stated, except to say that she was a grown woman when the War between the States broke out, her age from 104 to 106 years. At any rae, it was pointed out, her life span has included all the major wars fought by the United States except the Revolution and the War of 1812. Included in this list would be the War with Mexico, the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, and the first World War.
