All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Jerry Awtry Funeral services for Mr. Jerry Awtry, 76, of Rayville, LA were held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Rayville, LA with Dr. Ernest Winburn officiating. Interment followed in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, Monroe, LA under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home, Rayville, LA. Jerry Awtry was born on July 18, 1930 in Anniston, AL. He is a graduate of Bessemer High School in Bessemer, AL, and Samford University in Birmingham, AL. Jerry served as an Army Radio Operator during the Korean Conflict. He retired from State Farm Insurance Co. in Monroe, LA in September 1996 after 40 years with the company. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Carl P. and Frances Ellison Awtry; his brother, Carl E. Awtry and his sister, Ruth Awtry Brooks. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Diane Knight Awtry of Rayville, LA; his daughter, Lori Awtry Cole and husband, Terry Cole of Houston, TX and his daughter, Leslie Delane Awtry of Houston, TX; his sister, Louise Mullis of Warner Robins, GA and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Errol Miller, George Abbott, Lloyd Nance, Jim Adams, Todd Morris, Barry Collins, Jonathan Knight and Robert Knight. Honorary pallbearers were Butch Sartain and Tommy Borum. The family has requested that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Rayville where Jerry was a very active member and deacon.
