All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Prominent physician Dr. J.C.Ellington, claimed by death Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. for Dr. J.C.Ellington, beloved physician of Rayville for almost 40 years, at the Rayville United Methodist Church with Rev.K.J. Rorie,W.E. Nolan and Oscar E. Cloyd officiating. Interment followed in the Rayville Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home. Dr. Ellington passed away Thursday morning May 13 at the Rayville Hospital. He was rushed here by ambulance after suffering a heart attack while making a house call for one of his patients. He was 72 years of age. The Mangham native was a partner in Ball & Ellington Clinic of Rayville. He was graduate of Louisana Tech and LSU Medical School, a veteran of World War Ii serving in the US Medical Corps. He practiced medicine in Alto before the war and moved his practice to Rayville in 1945. He was elected parish coroner in 1953,a position he still held at the time of his death. Dr. Ellington was survived by his wife, Mrs. Lurline Ellington of Rayville, a son, Jay Ellington of Shrveport: three daughters, Mrs. F.L. Greaves Jr. of Hammond, Mrs. J.Cloyd Walker of Shreveport, and Mrs. Dixon Boyd of Rayville: two sisters, Mrs. F.E. Lyles and Mrs. Floyd Brunson, both of Mangham; and eight grandchildren, Landon and Melinda Greaves of Hammond, Kayla and Tracy Walker, Chris and Lindy Ellington, all of Shreveport; and Alicia and Molly Boyd of Rayville. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Billy Joe Lyles, Elwyn C. Lyles, Noble Ellington III, Elwyn Lyles, Ryan Ellington, and Joe Lyles. Honorary pallbearers were the staff of Richland Parish Hospitals, and other area physicians, and the staff of Ball and Ellington Clinic Memorials can be made to the Rayville United Methodist Church.
