Avants Services for Mr. John Henry “Johnny” Avants, 54, a retired welder of Rayville, were held Monday, August 23, 2004 at the Abundant Life Full Gospel Church in Crew Lake with Sister Shirley Davidson and the Rev. Harold Spillers officiating. Interment followed in McKnight Cemetery near Holly Ridge under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home of Rayville. Mr. Avants was born on October 8, 1949 and passed away on Friday, August 20,2004. John was a member of Abundant Life Full Gospel Church. He will be remembered by many of his coworkers as :Charlie Sue”. John was preceded in death by his parents, Vardaman and Josie Avants; a sister, Lula Mae Thomas, and his brother, James Edward “Buddy” Avants. Survivors include his son, John Edward Avants of Rayville; his daughter, Sharon R. Avants of Rayville; his sisters, Nettie R. Hill and husband John of Start, Willie M. Bell of Rayville; and Evelyn Nappier and husband Leslie of Rayville; his sister-in-law, Betty Avants of Rayville; his aunt, Juanita Cater of Jonesboro-Hodge; his uncle, Walter Avants of Mer Rouge; a special nephew, who was as close as a brother; Danny Thomas of Rayville; and a host of family and friends. Pallbearers were Johnny Bell, Richard Bell, Alvin Bell, Edward Avants. George Nappier and J. P. Walker. Honorary pallbearers were “Jap” Kimball, Billy Davidson, and Danny Thomas.
