Hardy, 42, formerly of Rayville died May 13, 1956, ten days after he was severely burned in an accident occurring at the Paul Bunyan Lumber Company in Susanville, CA where he was employed. He had been in California for about nine years, having lived in Richland Parish during the rest of his life. it was reported that the accident happened when the former Rayville ,am was repairing a boiler at the company. He received scalding burns covering 80 percent of his body, with 80 to 90 per cent described as third degree burns. His parents, Mr.and Mrs. Ben Hardy Sr. of Rayville with his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hardy Jr. of Pittsburgh PA were called to California following the accident, and were with the injured man at the time of his death. Friends here are grieved to learn of this tragedy, and offer profound condolences to members of his grieving family. He is survived by his wife and three children on son and two daughters of Susanville, CA, his parents from here, and his brother named above and two sisters, Mrs. Bell Gallman of Rayville and Mrs. Cecil Battenfield of Transylvania and numerous other relatives in this section.
