J. Newton Pitts, Clerk of the District Court for Richland Parish, 
died of pneumonia on the 14th instant.  Mr. Pitts was a competent officer 
and a most excellent gentleman.  
J.S. Summerlin was appointed Clerk to fill the vacancy occasioned by 
the death of Mr. Pitts.
