Gonzales, 96, of Rayville, Louisiana passed away May 30, 2007 after an extended illness. Born September 3, 1910 in Greenville, Mississippi, John was the son of Benito and Cecelia Gonzales. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Nellie G. Valdez, grandson, Steven T. Richardson, daughter-in-law, Nelmarie Gonzales, and other family and friends. He is survived by his Wife of 73 years, Florine McRee Gonzales, Daughter and son-in-law, Jonnie Rae and Roy Richardson, Sr. of Keithville, LA, Son, Ronald Gonzales, Rayville, LA, Son and daughter-in-law, Ramon and Donna Gonzales of Terry MS. Other survivors are Grandchildren, Roy and Rhonda Richardson, Randy Richardson, Terry and Anita Richardson, Jose and Brenda Gomez, Carmen Gonzales, John Charles Gonzales, Toni and Garrick Stubbs, Tonya Harrison, Heather and Seth Strickland. Eleven Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends. Mr. Gonzales, a successful businessman, owned and operated Rayville Shoe Shop until his retirement. A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he enjoyed all family occasions and loved nothing more than celebrating special times with his loved ones. He loved to counsel others with words of wisdom and advice. He enjoyed the out of doors, especially fishing, and continued that activity as long as health permitted. Active in his church, Woodlawn Baptist Church, Rayville, Louisiana, he remained a faithful member. Active in AA, he counseled and mentored many there. The family received friends at Woodlawn Baptist Church, Friday, June 1, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., and Saturday, June 2, 9 a.m. until 12 noon. Services at Woodlawn Baptist Church, were June 2, at 2 p.m. Interment followed services at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, Monroe, Louisiana under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home, Rayville, Louisiana. Pallbearers were Harry Gibson, Lamar Hillis, Charles Johnston, Clarence Lambert, Larry Milby, Donald Musick, and Dennis O’Conner. Honorary pallbearers were Woodlawn Baptist Church Men’s Prayer Group and Senior Men’s Sunday School Class. Memorials can be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home or your favorite charity.
