He was born on March 28, 1935 in Archibald, Louisiana, and was a graduate of Mangham High School and Northeast Louisiana State University and then entered the U.S. Army as a field artillery officer, where he served in Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded multiple commendations for courage in combat including two Bronze Stars, the National Defense Services Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal. A lifetime of reading, curiosity and travel gave him a wealth of knowledge ranging from the useful to the obscure, and he delighted in sharing odd facts and stories with family and friends. He was a huge LSU football fan, even listening to their games on shortwave radio while stationed overseas. He was preceded in death by parents, Edmund Connella Williamson, Rubye Griggs Williamson; sister, Ann Cummins; nephew, Richard Cummins, and niece, Lynne Williamson. He is survived by his beloved family: wife, Peggy Guynes Williamson of the home; daughters Jaymie Williamson, Las Cruces, NM; Diane Williamson, Lykens, PA; step-children, Dee Deere Carpenter and Chris Deere, Rayville; brother, Edmund Nelson Williamson, Mangham; three nephews; two nieces, six great-nieces and nephews; two step-grandchildren, and former wife, Nell Williamson, mother of his two daughters. Instead of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to Mr. Williamson's favorite charities: River Cities Humane Society for Cats, the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Private services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Mulhearn Funeral Home, Rayville, LA.
