Death of Rev. C.E. Marshall

  Last Wednesday week, the Rev. C.K. Marshall passed away at his home in 
Vicksburg, Miss.  Thus went out one of the brightest lights of the Southern 
Methodist Church.
  The learned divine preached here several years ago, and by his earnestness 
and eloquence, won the hearts of those who had the good fortune to hear him.
  The Vicksburg Herald, of recent date, says; The death of Rev. C.K. Marshall, 
which occured yesterday  morning at 9:30 o'clock at his home in thiscity, 
after a brief and apparently not serious illness, deprives Vicksburg and the 
State of one of the most conspicuous and distingluished figures in their 
history, for though not a native of Mississippi, Dr. Marshall has been 
identified with it for sixty years and was was endeared to its people by the 
many trials and vicissitudes he had shared with them.  His demise was sudden 
and totally unexpected.  Asevere attack of la grippe, which ran into pneumonia 
had prostrated him in December and brought hime very near death's door.  He 
rallied from the disease and was even able to attend the conference at Canton 
in the early part of the month. Last week a second attack of the grippe 
supervened and confined him to his bed. His last words after an attack 
was "Lord be with me in this hour."
  The Rev. Marshall was a native of Maine and was born in Portland, Wash. 
August 29, 1819.  He was seventy-nine years old.  He was one of the leading 
spirits in the Southern Methodist Church
