Burial followed in Lone Cherry Cemetery, Mangham, Louisiana. Following a lengthy illness, Maudie Crawford Ellis departed this earth at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mildred and Chester Miles in Berryville, Arkansas on November 25, 2006. She was born on December 4, 1919 in Mangham, Louisiana to the union of Samuel and Effie Crawford. During her lifetime, Maudie was a loving and giving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, a faithful friend, and an astute businesswoman. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Brooks of New Orleans, Louisiana and Hughlon Ellis of Lena, Mississippi, both of whom she nursed untiringly throughout their lengthy illnesses. Others who went before her to their heavenly reward included her parents, a brother, Retired Colonel Troy Crawford of the U.S. Air Force who lived in Tampa, Florida, three sisters, Zula Williams of Mangham, Louisiana, Ollie Sharbono and Ovie Hannah of Rayville, Louisiana, a former husband and the father of her children J.B. Weston of Winnsboro, Louisiana, a granddaughter, Stephanie Anne Weston and a grandson, Baby Boy Weston as well as a number of treasured family members and friends. Besides Millie and Ches, other immediate family members who are left behind to celebrate Maudie’s life include her daughter and son-in-law, Mickie and Ray Higgins, also of Berryville, as well as sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Mary Weston of Hurley, Mississippi, John and Beverly Weston of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Michael and Debbie Weston of Beaumont, Texas and Jay and Debbie Weston of Pace, Florida. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends, all of whom will miss Maudies’ ready smile and warm presence which always seemed to “light up the room”. She was loved and will be sorely missed by many people who will continue to cherish beautiful memories of her, and who will take solace in the understanding that their loss is in reality Grandmother Maudie’s greatest reward.
