Momma loved people and in turn, she was loved by many. She never met a stranger and was "Aunt Margaret" to many of her young friends. Momma was born in Archibald, Louisiana to Simmie and Lela Free on December 22, 1931. She was preceded in death by her husband and our daddy, Willie Alfred "Bill" McCartney. Margaret Free McCartney is survived by one brother, Charles Edgar Free and his wife, Laura of Archibald, LA; a son, Tom McCartney of Monroe, LA; a daughter, Kathy Turnage and a son-in-law, Johnny Turnage of Monroe, LA; a daughter, Tammi Moore and son-in-law, David Moore of Start, LA; a son, Jerre Wallis "Wally" McCartney and daughter-in-law, Michelle of West Monroe, LA; grandchildren, Jonathan Moore and wife, Alison of Texarkana, TX; Jeffrey Moore and Joshua Moore; Brenden McCartney, Bailey McCartney, Mackenzie McCartney; and, countless nieces, nephews and friends. Our mother was a retired hairdresser. Early on she was a teacher of cosmetology at "Jerry Mardis' School of Hair Design" in Monroe, Louisiana, helping many hairdressers to begin their careers before setting up her own business at home in Mangham, Louisiana. Because of her love for people, later in life she decided to become an Avon sales representative. Sales gave her the additional opportunity to enjoy so many people that she loved, while visiting and delivering products. Services were held at 3:00 P.M. Monday, February 19, 2007 at the Archibald Church of Christ with Bro. Karl Huff and Bro. Stanley Fortenberry officiating. Interment followed at Start Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home, Rayville, Louisiana.
