Stokes On Saturday, Oct. 12th, 1912, in her 66th year, after a long and useful life, Mrs. M. E. Stokes, of Mangham, died as she had lived - honored trusted and loved. She reared her own monument while she lived in the hearts of all who know her. Her life was completed if work all done and well done constitutes completion. Her Christian life was beautiful from its beginning to its close, and through all the vicisitudes of life and sorrows that she met in the way, her faith in God never wavered. But she has left us and today the autumn leaves fall upon another grave that hides from our sight all that is mortal of a true and noble woman. Mrs. Stokes leaves two daughters to mourn her loss, Miss Alice Stokes and Mrs. C. E. McConnell, both of Mangham. She also left a brother, C. N. Noble of Charlieville. To these sorrowing ones as well as to the many friends of the deceased we would tender our heartfelt sympathy which can not be expressed in words. May this dispensation of God's providence be you such blessing that you may be reconciled to His will, knowing that he does all things well. Mrs. Stokes united with the Methodist Church in her youth, and was ever faithful to the vows she assumed. She was not only faithful to her church, but just as faithful in believing it was her duty as a Christian to do the will of her Master at all times. Her life was gentle, but like the still waters it was deep. In her heart of hearts she carried those she loved, and her hand was never weary, her step never failed in administering unto, caring for, and waiting upon those who in any way were dependent upon her. "Then fell upon the house a sudden gloom, A shadow on those features frail And thin; And softly, from that hushed and Darkened room, Two angels issued where but one Went in." T. H. McGregor
