All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** * Mary Sue Gryder Jordan Services for Mary Sue Gryder Jordan, age 73, of Rayville, LA will be held on Friday, January 7, 2005 at 10:00 AM at St. David's Episcopal Church in Rayville with the Reverend William Edward Baldridge officiating. Interment will follow at the Church of Redeemer in Oak Ridge, LA. After the burial service, a reception will be held in Jordan Hall at the Church of Redeemer. Mrs. Jordan died on Wednes day, January 5, 2005 at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, LA. Mrs. Jordan was born on October 26, 1931 in Vivian, LA. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Robie Elmer Hugh Gryder (nee Grace Lee May Gryder). She was a twin and the oldest of four children. She was voted Homecoming Queen during her junior year in high school and the 1949 State Queen of the Future Farmers of America. She was a member of the graduating class of 1949 at Rayville High School. She attended Northeast Junior College in Monroe, LA and was voted sweetheart of Alpha Theta Chi fraternity. On December 30, 1952 she married her high school sweetheart, Francis Victor Jordan, II and they had four children. This housewife was a member of the Boeuf River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and St. David's Episcopal Church. She enjoyed entertaining and was known for hosting many parties to honor high school senior girls as well as brides in Richland Parish. In later years, "Miss" Mary Sue spent countless hours crocheting baby blankets for newborns. She was a remarka ble cook, avid reader, competi tive hunter and fisherman, and affectionately known as "Bump" to her seven grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Helen Elizabeth Jordan Barthel; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robie Elmer Hugh Gryder, twin brother, Major Robert Joe Gryder, United States Air Force; soninlaw, William Ferris Barthel, Jr., and niece, Deborah Ann Gryder. Survivors include her devoted husband of fiftytwo years, Francis Victor Jordan, II; three children: Francis Victor Jordan, III and his wife, Mary Eileen Jordan of Rayville, LA, Christopher Allen Jordan of Rayville, LA and Amelia Grace Jordan of Monroe, LA; grandchildren: Virginia O'Hara Jordan, Emily Grace Jordan, Francis Victor Jordan, IV, Megan Duvall Jordan, Christopher Allen Jordan, II, Mary Elizabeth Barthel and Abigail Frances Barthel; brother, Dale Douglas Gryder and his wife, Sally Ann O'Rear Gryder of Homer, LA; sister, Sandra Jean Gryder Bishop and her hus band, Malcolm Ray Bishop of Tallulah, LA; sisterinlaw, Ann Spencer Gryder of Nacogdoches, TX; brother-in-law, John Thomas Jordan, Jr. and his wife, Alica Ann Adkins Jordan of Rayville, LA; Godchildren: James Arthur Brown, III and Hannah Greer; nieces and nephews: Robert Spencer Gryder, Cheryl Ester Gryder, Dale Douglas Gryder, II and his wife, Laura, Sarah Ade line Gryder, Gregory Wade Bishop and his wife, Brenda, Amanda Kaye Bishop Massey and her husband, Don, Mary Beth Bishop Dickerson and her husband, Michael and Kathryn Rachel Jordan. Pallbearers will be her grand sons, Francis Victor Jordan, IV and Christopher Allen Jordan, II; nephews: Gregory Wade Bishop, Erle Edwards Barham, Thomas West Barham, Robert Jocelyn Barham, James Arthur Brown, III and Guy Cecil "Buddy" Pardue. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joseph Loyd Germany, George Bibb Franklin, Jr., John Marian Pardue and Dr. Ronald Collins Hubbard, Sr. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, January 6, 2005 at Mulhearn Funer al Home in Rayville, LA.
