Gryder Services for Robie Elmer Hugh Gryder, 99, of Rayville were held December 11, 2003 at the Church of Christ in Rayville with Mr. Langdon Wilson officiating. Burial followed at the Church of the Redeemer Cemetery in Oak Ridge under the direction of Brown-Holley-Funeral Home of Rayville. Mr. Gryder died December 9 at the Olive Branch in Tallulah. Mr. Gryder was born on November 23, 1904 in Cass County Texas. His parents were Richard Gee Gryder and Rosie Elnor Adcock Gryder. He was the oldest child of ten children (three boys and seven girls). Mr. Gryder worked as an oil switcher for the Amoco Gas Company for twenty-five years. He was a life long member of the Church of Christ. Upon his retirement, he worked long hours in his garden, fished and raised flowers which he shared with the community. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Grace Lee May Gryder; his Son, Major Robert Joe Gryder, United States Air Force; two granddaughters, Helen Elizabeth Jordan Barthel and Deborah Ann Gryder. Survivors include three children: Mary Sue Gryder Jordan and her husband Francis Victor Jordan II of Rayville, Dale Douglas Gryder and his wife Sally Ann O’Rear Gryder of Homer, Sandra Jean Gryder Bishop and her husband Malcolm Ray Bishop of Tallulah; one daughter-in-law Ann Spencer Gryder of Nacogdoches, Texas; Grandchildren; Francis Victor Jordan III and his wife Eileen; Christopher Allen Jordan; Amelia Grace Jordan, Robert Spencer Gryder, Cheryl Ester Gryder, Dale Douglas Gryder II and his wife, Laura, Sarah Adeline Gryder Cook and her husband, Steven, Gregory Wade Bishop and his wife, Brenda; Amanda Kay Bishop, and Mary Beth Bishop Dickerson and her husband Michael. Great grandchildren: Virginia O’Hara Jordan, Emily Grace Jordan, Francis Victor Jordan IV, Megan Duvall Jordan, Christopher Allen Jordan II, Mary Elizabeth Barthel, Abigail Frances Barthel, Caleb Lawrence Gryder, Johnathan Brooks, O’Keefe Bishop, Joshua Wade Bishop, Michael Ray Dickerson, Mary Amanda Grace Dickerson, and Madison Virginia Mae Dickerson. Pallbearers were his grandsons: Frances Victor Jordan III, Christopher Allen Jordan, Dale Douglas Gryder II, and Gregory Wade Bishop; great-grandson, Francis Victor Jordan IV; and Michael Lynn Dickerson. Honorary pallbearers were: Emmitt Lee Brown, Jr,. Pete Mulhearn and Fred Richardson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of Christ in Rayville or the charity of your choice.
