Griffis Services for Mrs. Ruth Ellen Rudy Griffis were held in the Presbyterian Church at 10 A.M. on Tuesday, July 6,2004. Graveside services followed in Athens, Louisiana, in the Atkins Family Cemetery at 1:30 P.M. The Reverend John Albright officiated and was assisted by Mulhearn Funeral Home of Rayville. Visitation for family and friends was held at the Rayville Presbyterian Church on Monday, July 5,2004, from 6 to 8 P.M. Ruth Ellen died on Saturday, July 3,2004 after a short illness. She was born February 18, 1915 in Star City Arkansas, daughter of Homer Elliot Rudy and Lalla Mae Granberry. Her childhood was spent in Alexandria, LA. She was a graduate of Louisiana College and Louisiana State University prior to moving to Rayville in 1937. Mrs. Griffis was a teacher and librarian in the schools in Grayson and Rayville. She spent twenty- one years working at Cochran Tractor Company and has spent the last eleven years as a volunteer at her cherished Rhymes Memorial Library. Ruth Ellen received the Nonnie Roark Rhymes Memorial Award in 1995 for exemplary service. An active and devoted member of the Rayville Presbyterian Church, she served the congregation as a deacon and elder. Mrs. Griffis was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Homer E. Rudy Jr, her husband Charles B. Griffis, Jr., and her son Charles B. "Pete" Griffis, III. Survivors include her daughter, Lalla Criffis Mangin and husband Albert; two grandsons, Michael Mangin and wife Rhonda; Charles Mangin; one great grandchild, Elizabeth; daughter-in-law Linda LaLande Griffis and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. Pallbearers were Cooper Cochran, Jess Cochran, Jim Griffis, Steve Chenoweth, Joe Reeves and Sam Reeves. Honorary pallbearers were the elders of the Rayville Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that memoirals may be made to the Rayville Presbyterian Church, Box 443, Rayville, Louisiana 71269, or to Rhymes Memorial Library, Box 522, Rayville, Louisiana 71269.
