Obituary of Steve Crawford, Richland Parish, Louisiana Submitted by Betty Jean Weems Neathery Newspaper clipping from the Richland Beacon-News, Rayville, LA undated, but probably from the April 20 or 27, 1933 edition. 22 May 2005 ********************************************** Copyright. He was in Rayville and Mangham on Friday before his death Monday morning, apparently in good health and spirits, and as we stood at his open grave Tuesday morning with a large concourse of friends, probably six or seven hundred in number, we sighed and said, "Truly it is sad and hard to part with friends, with men like Steve Crawford, that lived and fought for all that was high and holy." Truth, honesty and charity was his motto, and his daily living before men was proof of the desire in his big, warm heart to befriend, to help, to lead and lift fellowman to that end of a higher and nobler life that begins at the end of this earthly life, or at death. Truly, seeds of good deeds and kindness strewn along the path of life by this, our noble friend, Steve Crawford, can never die, but will live on, bud and bloom to bless unborn generations. Though faults and a thousand mistakes he may have made, which are common to all flesh, the desire of his heart was to live the Christ spirit: do unto others as he would that they do unto him. What else could he do, for faith in Jesus the Master, and love to fellowman is the fulfillment of the law. So to you loved ones, whose hearts bleed and break in the separation of husband and father and brother, you can rejoice in the noble Christian life he lived and that he stands justified on that never-ending shore of eternal time for the faith he kept in the Master's name. Our prayer for you is that you trust God and submit to His good and righteous will as best you can. Submitter's notes: Stephen Jacob Crawford, the son of Peter Tobias Crawford and Gracy Myers Crawford, was born August 12, 1872 in Scott County, MS and died April 17, 1933 in Mangham, Richland Parish, LA.
