Mrs. Smith died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 1995, in Baton Rouge. She was 81, born Dec. 12, 1913 in Marks, Miss. and a longtime resident of Rayville. She was a retired Richland Parish School System school teacher. Visiting at Gillsburg Baptist Church, Amite County, Miss., 10 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. Friday, conducted by the Rev. Todd Stewart and the Rev. Joe Senn. Interment in Gillsburg Cemetery. Survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Richard Downes, Orlando,Fla., Virginia and Kim Seago, Walker, and Margaret and Keith Leaphart, Monroe; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband, Austin B. Smith; parents, Simeon Wilson Sproles and Louella Holloway Sproles; two brothers, John Sproles and H.F.Sproles; and three sisters, Leta Tisdale, Mary Ella Myrick and Helen Stewart. Pallbearers will be Rick Downes, Austin Downes, Mark Seago, John Seago, Jacon Leaphart, Kenneth Stewart, John Norman Honea and Hampton Lea. She was a member of Oakcrest Baptist Church, former longtime member of First Baptist Church, Rayville, DAR Boeuf River Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, a graduate of Blue Mountain College with a bachelor's degree and received a master's degree from Mississippi College.
