All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** William Farris Barthel, Jr. Services for William (Bill) Farris Barthel Jr., 50, of Rayville, were held Sunday at First Baptist Church in Rayville with Dr. Ernest Winburn and the Rev. William Baldridge officiating. A graveside service was held at Church of the Redeemer in Oak Ridge Under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Rayville. Mr. Barthel passed away April 26 in Rayville. Mr. Barthel was born on March 20, 1952 in Jackson, MS. His parents were Mr.& Mrs, William Farris Barthel Sr. He was the third child of five children. Mr. Barthel was a graduate of the class of 1970 of Rayville High School. While in high school, he played sports, football and basball and earned the highest award of the Boy Scouts of America, Eagle Scout. While attending Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Bill played for the college baseball team. He graduated from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe. Mr. Barthel started his own business, Barthel Wholesale Meats, Inc in 1975. Bill and his wife, Helen Elizabeth Jordan Barthel (Liz) were married on December 14, 1985. They were the parents of Mary Elizabeth Barthel,14, and Abigail (Abby) Frances Barthel (11 ½). Bill’s oldest daughter is Andrea Grace Barthel Wilkie. Bill was and avid sporstman and enjoyed turkey, deer and duck hunting. He was also the assistant coach for the Louisiana ASA Blaze Tournamnet in 2001 in Ruston. His wife Helen Elizabeth Jordan Barthel, preceded Mr. Barthel in death In 1998. Survivors include his three daughters, Andrea Grace Barthel Wilkie and her husband Andrew of Clinton, MS, Mary Elizabeth Barthel and Mary Frances Barthel and Abigail Frances Barthel of Rayville; a granddaughter, Carson Claire Wilkie of Clinton, MS; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. William Farris Barthel Sr. of Rayville; siblings Diane Newell and her husband, Altus, of St. Augustine, FL., Judy Griffin and her husband, Bud of Mobile, AL., Bob Barthel and his wife, Debbie of Decatur, AL. and Don Barthel and his wife Mary Allen and of Decatur, AL.; parents-inlaw, Mr. & Mrs. Frances Victor Jordan II of Rayville; brothers-and sisters-in law, Mr.& Mrs. Frances Victor Jordan III, Christopher Allen Jordan and Amelia Grace Jordan all of Rayville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Cole Barthel, Francis Victor Jordan III, Christopher Allen Jordan, Joe Morris, Mike Adcock, James Greem, Dane Moore, and D.R. Rawls. Memorials may be made to the Liz Barthel College Scholarship at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, First Baptist Church in Rayville or the charity of your choice.
