B. was copied from May 25, 1901 copy of The Richland Beacon News THE END CAME As was announced in last week's Beacon News, Mr. W.B Mann died at his home ten miles north of Rayville on Friday of last week, May 17 at 12:20 O'clock after lingering for several months, suffering from that dreadful malady, consumption, surrounded by his family and several friends. While the death of Mr. Mann was no surprise, it came as a shock to his relatives and friends, for he was a man highly esteemed in this parish and enjoyed the respect and confidence of all who knew him. The deceased was devoted to his family and loyal to his friends, and we doubt that he had an enemy in Richland Parish. In 1896 Mr. Mann was elected as police member from this ward, and upon organization of that body ge was chosen president. That he performed his duties honestly and faithfully, everyone familiar with parish affairs will attest. He was chosen by Sheriff W.N. Traylor as his chief deputy, and in this capacity he made for himself the enviable reputation of being a fearless officer, and resigned that position with the good will and respect of his employer and everyone else with whom he had business dealings. It was by the nerve and tenacity of Mr. Mann that Sam Parker and Bell McSwain were prevented from making good their escape and made to pay the penalty for their crime in July last. Mr. Mann did not belong to any church, but joined the K.of P. Lodge of this place five years ago, and was one of its best working and devoted members. He leaves a wife and five living children, two children dead, one half sister, and one brother Mr. G.A. Mann. His remains were intered in Midway Cemetery,19 miles north of Delhi, last Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock, under the auspices of C. R. Balfour Lodge No. 12, K. of P., of Rayville. Mr. Mann was insured with the New York Mutal Life Insurance Company for $2000 We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family. Note: See newspaper articles for related article -WBMann
