Barthel Services for Mr. William Farris Barthel, Sr. 88 of Rayville, were Saturday, June 17, 2006 at First Baptist Church Rayville with Dr. Ernest Windburn officiating, with interment following in Rayville Masonic Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Rayville, LA. Mr. Barthel passed away Thursday June 15, 2006 in Rayville, LA. He was a member of First Baptist Church Rayville where he was a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He graduated in business from Mississippi State University and was a captain in the United States Air Force as a navigator in the B 29’s, then he was in Private Business in Rayville approximately 60 years and was the owner of Barthel Meat Packing Company and Barthel Realty. He was preceeded in death by his parentsGeorge and Louise Barrthel, and a son and daughter-in-law William Farris “Bill”Barthel,Jr. and Elizabeth “Liz” Jordan Barthel. He is survived by his wife Reba Barthel of Rayville, LA; two daughters Diane Newell and her husband Altus of Kaiserslantern, Germany and Judy Griffin and her husband of Fairhope, AL; two sons Bob Barthel and his wife Debbie of Hoover, AL and Don Barthel and his wife Mary Allen of Decatur, AL; two sisters Mary Louise Jordan of Jackson, MS and Eleanor Snyder and her husband Ray of Winter Park, FL and one brother George Bartel, Jr and his wife Inez of Jackson, MS; 12 grandchildren, Sarah and Andy Taylor, Amanda Newell, Justin Newell, Andrea and Andrew Wilkie. Mary Barthel, Abby Barthel, Jill and Taylor Boulo, Cole Barthel, Codi Barthel, Mary Kate Barthel, Clint Barthel and Peyton Barthel; 5 great grandchildren, Jefferson Taylor and James Taylor, Carson and Ella Wilkie and Turner Boulo. Pallbearers were Cole Barthel, Andrew Wilkie, Justin Newell, Clint Barthel, Todd Morris, Johnny B. Hoychick, Ed Scott and Jim Adams.
