RAYVILLE, LA - Services for The Reverend W. L. Strong, Jr., of Rayville, Louisiana will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday, April 8, 2001, in Rayville United Methodist Church with The Reverend Ray R. Spiller officiating. Burial will be in the Boeuf Prairie Methodist Cemetery under the direction of MuIhearn Funeral Home of Rayville. Mr. Strong died April 6, 2001, at the Richardson Medical Center after a sudden illness. The deceased, a lifetime ative of Richland Parish, was a 1955 graduate of Holly Ridge High School. He earned his B. A. from Louisiana Tech University in 1959. Thereafter, he completed a Master of Divinity from Southern Methodist University and post-graduate studies at Louisiana Tech University, the University of Oklahoma, and Northeast Louisiana University. After a short tour of duty in the U. S. Navy, Mr. Strong began his lifetime career of ministries and counseling. Upon his return to his native Richland Parish, he began a twenty-year career in teaching at Rayville High School, during which time he served as Department Head of History until retirement in 1990. Although he retired from teaching, his ministry and counseling continued to make an impact that will long be remembered. The Reverend Strong served as minister to many congregations, the most recent including the Rayville Presbyterian Church and the Boeuf Prairie Methodist Church. His community service entailed membership and the presidency of the official board of the Richardson Medical Center, as well as contributions to various other civic and cultural organizations. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Myrna Carpenter Strong; Daughter, Edi Strong Wood and her husband, Todd; Son, Robb Strong; three grandchildren, Austin, Jessica, and Cole; His mother, Mrs. Agnes Holloway Strong Tatum; Sister, Mrs. Fay Southern and her husband W.R.; Aunt, Miss Marjorie H. Holloway; Uncle, Wendall N. Holloway; Aunt, Mrs. Olivia Strong Campbell; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Walter Cochran, Robert W. Calvert, Jr., Allan Thompson, Mike Thompson, Wayne McManus, The Reverend Mac Dearman, J. H. Colvin, Michael Aaron and Paul Bairnsfather. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bernard L. Waite, George B. Franklin, Jr., Tom Arthur, W. L. Yancey, Jr., Ellis Bairnsfather, Father Bobby lnzina, Jerry Cobb, The Reverend Frank Jones, The Reverend Don Hall, James Aaron, Lloyd McManus, Trae Greer, Ricky O'Briant, Jesse Lively, Jr., D. J. Lively, and Brad Lively. Memorials may be sent to the Rayville United Methodist Church, Boeuf Prairie Methodist Church, Rayville Presbyterian Church, or the charity of donor's choice.
