All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** William Rankin Thompson William Rankin Thompson 63, died here at his home last Tuesday morning, July 10, 1945, at 2:20 o’clock, following a long illness which necessitated his retirement from active duties several years ago. Funeral services were held at the residence Wednesday afternoon at 5 o’clock with Rev.John Hooks of the First Baptist Church officiating, assisted by Rev. J. H. Midyett of the Rayville Methodist Church . The interment, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Rayville, was held in the Rayville Masonic Cemetery. There was a Masonic service at the grave. The active pallbearers were Sam Fragala, Lasley J. Downes, Carl Thompson, Fred Thompson, John Holdiness, I. G. Foster, Richard Downes and S. F. Wynn Honorary pallbearers were R.S.Diamond, W.T. Jones, H.W. Blakeman, R.L. Harris, W.G. McKinney, F.A. Tolar, J.M. Binion, W.H. Hallack, Dr. H.C. Chambers, C.C.Buck, Steve Cook, Joe G. Cabuck all members of R.F. McGuire Lodge F.& A.M. and all friends of the family. The survivors are his wife, Mrs. Non Thompson, of Rayville; two daughters, Mrs. J.T, Harris of Daytona Beach. Fla; Miss Nona Margaret Thompson, of Rayville, one son William David Thompson, of the U.S. Navy; one brother, A.K. Thompson and two nephews, Carl and Fred Thompson. Mr. Thompson has made Richland parish his home all of his life, and the major part of his manhood has been spent in Rayville, where he was for many years, until his health failed, chief engineer of the Rayville Light Plant. “Rank” Thompson, as he was familiarly known to his legions of friends, was a quiet and unassuming man, but with a heart of gold. This was exemplified by his home life and the devotion to his family, and the loyalty he had for his friends . By these he will be missed and mourned, and to them is ever present the realization that his place can not be filled. The Beacon -News joins in offering sympathy to the members of the bereaved family. Added note: W.R. Thompson was born April 15, 1881 and died July 10, 1945.
