To Any Ordained Minister of the Gospel, or to any Justice of the Peace ~ 
Greeting:
You are hereby authorized and empowered to unite in the Bonds of Matrimony
and Holy Wedlock, Dr William H Berry and
Mrs Mary Smith both residents of the State
aforesaid, and to solemnize and celebrate the said Marriage between said 
Parties,
according to the laws
and customs of this State, and make your return hereof, as the law directs, 
and this is your
authority for so doing.
	Given under my hand and Seal of Office, on this 9
	day of October 1892

State of Louisiana  ~  Parish of Richland
I hereby Certify, That I have on this day, in pursuance of the foregoing 
License, celebrated
and solemnized a marriage between Dr Wm H Berry
and Mrs Mary A Smith agreeably to the laws and customs
of the State of Louisiana
In faith whereof, I have together with the parties, and in the presence of the 
undersigned
witnesses, signed these presents on this (blank) day of (blank) 189(blank)

Know all Men by these Presents:
	That We, Dr Wm H Berry in principal
and William Smith as Security, are held and firmly
bound unto J S Summerlin Clerk of the 6th District Court, in and for the
Parish of Richland, State of Louisiana, and his successors in office, for the 
time being, in the sum
of Five Hundred Dollars, and for the true and final payment thereof, we bind 
ourselves, our heirs,
administrators and assigns.
	Signed and dated on this 9th day of Oct 1892.
The Condition of the above Obligation is such that whereas, a Marriage is 
about to take place
between the above bound Wm H Berry and
Mrs Mary Smith and if there shall exist no legal
impediments why the Marriage should not take place, then the above obligation 
to be void; else to
remain in full force and virtue, according to law.


Signed and acknowledged before me on the date first above written.

Additional Comments:
The name J W Summerlin is clearly written on the bottom of this document, but 
his name appears as Jno. S Summerlin in many other documents, including at the 
top of this one, so I believe his name as written at the bottom is an error.

Dr. William H Berry is found on the 1900 District 97, Police Jury Ward 1, 
Richland Parish, LA census enumerated 27 Jun 1900 as follows:

husband of Mary Harris]
Mary wife W F Dec 1831 49 married 8 years 10 children/8 living LA AL LA [Mary 
Harris, dau of Catherine White & Jasper N Harris.  Married 1st to Thomas R 
Smith 17 Jan 1867 in Carroll Parish, LA.]
Young Elizabeth step-daughter W F July 1882 17 married 2 yrs LA AL LA 
[Elizabeth (Lizzie) Smith, daughter of Mary Harris & Thomas R Smith]
Young William H son-in-law W M Nov 1871 28 married 2 yrs LA AL LA [William H, 
husband of Elizabeth (Lizzie) Smith]

W S Buchanan is William S Buchanan b Apr 1852 SC (this from the 1900 Richland 
Parish, LA census).
Wm Smith is probably Mary’s son, William, b 1868 to Mary & 1st husband Thomas 
R Smith.
