He was given fair opportunities for procuring an education and he took advantage of them, and was able to pursue the profession of teaching, but subsequently decided to enter upon a business career, for which his education fitted him. In 1901 he came to Many to become cashier of the Sabine Valley Bank, the first banking institution which was organized in the parish. He remained in this position until the Many State Bank and the Sabine Valley Bank were consolidated and rechartered under the name of Sabine State Bank when he was made president of that institution, which position he still occupies. He is a conservative and progressive business man, and besides attending to his duties as the head of the bank has given encouragement and assistance to worthy enterprises and has filled several positions, honorary and political. He is a good citizen and as president of the bank is always ready to extend favors when it in the interest of safe banking to do so. In 1904 Mr. Hunter was married to Miss Persia Brown of Canton, Miss., and they have an interesting family and pretty home. # # #
