JUDGE DON E. SORELLE



Judge Don E. SoRelle was born at Quitman, Wood County, Texas, August 1, 1857. 

His parents were Dr. Thomas W. SoRelle, a native of Alabama, and Mildred Ford

of Georgia, he being their fifth child.  In 1850 he moved with his parents to

Mississippi, where he remained until 1869, when they came to Louisiana,

locating in Rapides parish, near the town of Boyce.  Judge SoRelle received

most of his education under the instruction of his father and mother and

studied law at home. In 1886 he graduated from the Law Department of Tulane

University and located at Leesville for the practice of his profession.  He

had formerly been associated with John F. Smart in the newspaper business at

that place.  In 1890 he established a newspaper at Pelican, La, but moved to

Many in August of that year and started the Sabine Banner as an anti lottery

organ, and took up the practice of law.  His official record is noted in

former pages of these annals.  He has been an untiring and conscientious

worker for an ideal education system and citizenship in the parish, and as the

present mayor of Many hopes to do some good for the town.  He is associated in

the practice of law with Senator John H. Boone. On January 7, 1880, Judge

SoRelle was married to Miss Mattie Self, daughter of Judge Elijah Self, they

have reared a most estimable family, and they have one of the prettiest and

most commodious residences in Many.
