I wanted to ask for some help on my YOUNG line, the line goes like this: My Mom (still living) - Juanita YOUNG (married name HAWKINS) b. 1931 Shreveport LA My Granddad - Shelby Cuyler YOUNG b. 1902 Shelby Co., TX d. 1991 Alexandria LA, m. Evie McMILLAN b.1904 Sabine Parish d. 1933 Shreveport LA Shelby's parents were Willis Napoleon YOUNG b. 1858 Halcyondale GA d. 1940 Alexandria LA Since my Mom's mother died in 1933, we know little or nothing about her or her family. Is there anyone out there who might be able to look up a marriage date for Evie and Shelby? I think they were married in Sabine Parish, between 1924, when he was "single" on his Army enlistment papers, and 1931 when my Mom was born. Thanks very much in advance! sue hawkins ______________________________X-Message: #2 Date: Sun, 28 Dec 1997 18:03:21 -0500 From: Sue Hawkins To: DEEP-SOUTH-ROOTS-L@listserv.indiana.edu, LASABINE-L@rootsweb.com, LAVERNON-L-request@rootsweb.com Message-Id: <3.0.3.32.19971228180321.00958470@capital.net> Subject: [LASABINE-L] Vernon or Sabine Parish...? Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Hello all! Hope this finds everyone rested and in good spirits after the bulk of the holidays. My apologies to anyone who may get this more than once; I am posting it to 3 lists. Here is my predicament. I am looking for info on my Mom's mother, Evie (McMILLAN) YOUNG, who died when my Mom was 2 years old. Mom was born in Shreveport, LA, but her mother was from either Sabine or Vernon Parish - we aren't sure which. Mom thinks she was from Florien (Sabine Parish), but I would like to be sure and get the paperwork that would prove where she was born. We do know for sure that she died of typhoid at Charity Hospital in Shreveport in 1933, but Mom has been unable to obtain the death certificate, and we don't know how to find where she was buried. We think she married Mom's father somewhere in Sabine or Vernon Parish, but don't know for sure when. Does anyone know of any good way to get this info? I suppose I can write to the Health Department in both parishes for birth records.... But what about lost grave sites or death records that are "out of reach"? Thanks for your patience in my beginner questions. Have to start somewhere, don't I? sue h
