The bear and panther are visitors, but the catamount is a resident. In Januar, 1890, Louis Buvens killed a large catamount near Many, and hunting this animal has become a favorite pastime. The rattlesnake and moccasin are the only dangerous reptiles here, but snake bites are seldom heard of. In August 1890, two children of Mrs. F. Williams, residing near Many, were found playing with a large rattlesnake.
