Col Days, Major At the time he was turned loose Watson was a Col., Williams was a Lt. Col and Duke was a Capt. Were you wounded: Was sick about two years, being with my command and finished up and down. Was sent home once on sick furlough for about six months. Precise nature of wounds: was not wounded but left the army a physical wreck; has been _______ ever since, and not able to do very much labor. Were you discharged from the army by reason of wound: no If discharged or paroled from the army, where were you and what did you do until the close of the war: Was with my command at time of close of war. Was a prisoner for a month and 8 days, was exchanged and again joined my command and stayed until the close of the war. Been in the state for twenty nine years, (29) been out during this time for about a year on a visit only. Are you married or have you been married? Have been married, wife is dead If so, what is the size of your family? Got no family, but stay with my married daughters. What are the respective ages of your wife and children? daughters are 48, 46, and 44 years old. How many children do you have and how many of each sex: three, all girls, aged as above. Are you engaged in any business? If so, how much do you earn? All I do is sometimes make a cotton basket, when I can get some one to get me the timber. Have you any estate in your own right? None at all except my clothes Has your wife any estate in her own right? No, she is dead How have you derived support for yourself and family if you have one, for the last five years? Stay with my children, and make a basket as stated. But my daughters have all the family they can take care of and I want help now, having been heretofore adverse (?) to asking for state aid. What prevents you from earning a living now? Am old and worn out, being now 76 years old. Think now I should have aid and since I am unable to do something. Do you use intoxicants to any extent?
