[signature illegible] Clerk of Court --------------------------- WAR DEPARTMENT THE ADJUTANT GENERAL'S OFFICE WASHINGTON June 20, 1921 in reply refer to A. G. 201.3 (ORD) Hon. J. B. Aswell, House of Respresentatives. My dear Sir: In returning the letter, received by your reference, of Mr. R. S. Gandy, of Floren, Louisiana, relative to the military records of R. K. Sibley, G. W. Addision and J. L Pate, all of whom served in the Confederate States Army and in response to your request to be furnished with the records of these soldiers, I have the honor to inform you as follows: The records of this office show that Robert K. Sibley served as sergeant in Co. E. 11th Batallion Louisiana Infantry, and as private in Co. D. Consilidated Crescent Regiment, Louisiana, Confederate States Army. He enlisted May 14, 1862 at Many, Louisiana, and on the muster rolls of Co. E, 11th Battn. Louisiana Infantry, from May 14, 1862, to March and April, 1863, last on file, he was resported present for duty. The 11th Battalion Louisiana Infantry became part of the Consolidated Crescent Regiment by consolidation November 3, 1863. There are no muster rolls on file for Company D. Louisiana Consolidated Regiment, Confederate States Army, but an annual Report dated December 31, 1864, shows this soldier killed at the Battle of Mansfield April 8, 1864. There were three men of the name G. W. Addison who served in different Louisiana organizations, but from the meager data furnished, it is impossible for this Department to identify any one of them with the sodier whose record is desired. The name of J. L. Pate has not been found on the rolls, on file in this office or any Louisiana organization of the Confederate States Army. However, the reocrds show that one Liddleton (also borne as Littleton) J. Pate, who is described as a private of Co. C, 11th Battalion Louisiana Infantry, and of Co. F. Consolidated Crescent Regiment, Confederate States Army, enlisted May 7, 1862 at Natchitoches, and was paroled June 9, 1865 at Natchitoches. Date and place of capture not show. Very respectfully, P. C. Harris The Adjutant General 1 incl. ----------------- W. H. Vandegaer Abstracter Many, Louisiana August 3rd, 1928 Hon. W.M. Stirling Secretary, Board of Pension Commissioners Baton Route, Louisiana. Dear Sir: - Inclosed [sic] find application for Mrs. Mary Pate for pension, under death of her first Husband, Robert K. Sibley, together with copy of letter from Washgton, showing the war record of her different husbands. This is made in accordance with your letter to me of date July 27th, which stated that under a recent ruling, she could apply in the name of either of the three. I trust that you will find this application properly made out, and if not, please notify me of any error so that same can be corrected to conform to requirements before the board meets to act upon same. This Lady is the Soul of Honor, none that I know is more worthy, and her struggle through life has been a hard one, mainly due to the supreme sacrifice made for the Lost Cause by her first love at the Battle of Mansfield, La. and I trust that our great State can see its way clear to place her name upon the pension roll. She is now 86 years of age, and it will be only a few years that she will draw this money from the Sate, and she needs it very, very badly. Yours Truly [signature] W. H. Vandegaer She made an application March 11th, 1922 as widow of Littleton J. Pate which was deneied [sic] for the reason that her marriage to him was in 1908 when the Law then required that it should be prior to 1860. W.H. Vandegaer P.S.: - On receipt of this, please advise me if you think this will be allowed, as the poor old soul is so anxious to know.
