Officiating was the Rev. Joe Ratcliff. Burial was in Many Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home. He died at 9:32 a.m., Feb. 2, 1983, at Schumpert Hospital, after a brief illness. He was a native of Hunter, and a life long resident of Many. Mr. Abington was well known throughout the area for his 57 years in the restaurant business, principally in Many and Natchitoches. He was extremely interested in his community activities, and was well known by many people. He was the last charter member of the Many Lions Club, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Many. Mr. Abington is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Nell) Crews Abington; two sons, Douglas Crews Abington, and Joe Quarles Abington. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Sutton of Natchitoches; one son, Leonard "Pete" Abington of Many; and 10 grandchildren. He has one brother, Roy Abington of Pine Bluff, Ark.; a sister, Katherine Everett of Abilene, Texas, and numerous nephews and nieces. Pallbearers were Rodney Crews, John S. Pickett Jr., Tom Fore Phillips, John Byrd, Billy Hanna, Martin Abington, Robert Gentry, Don Alford, Emery Williams, and Vernice Wright. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Many Lions Club, and other friends and relatives.
