All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Mrs. Nell Abington (Photo) Death claimed a longtime Sabine Parish resident, Mrs. Nell Abington, on Sunday, Nov. 14, at 1:50 a.m. Mrs. Abington died in her San Antonio Avenue home in Many, following an extended illness. Elizabeth Ellen (Nell) Crews was born Oct. 27, 1900, to Leonard Oscar and Julia Hanlin Crews of Holloway in Rapides Parish. She came to Many a few years before she married Douglas C. Abington, Aug. 15, 1922. She was his beloved wife for 54 years. She was the mother of D. C. Abington Jr. of Baton Rouge, Margaret Ellen Sutton of Natchitoches, and Leonard (Pete) Abington of Many. A member of the First Baptist Church of Many, Mrs. Abington was a beautiful Christian, both humble and gracious to all those who knew and loved her. Survivors include her husband, Douglas C. Abington Sr. of Many; her three children; one brother, Albert H. Crews of Buckeye; one sister, Mrs. J. M. Abington of Many; two half brothers, Otis Crews, and Appell Crews, both of Buckeye, and Miss Vera Crews of Alexandria; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church of Many, Monday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m. The Rev. C. W. Williams, and the Rev. Rod Smith officiated. Burial was in the Many Cemetery, under the direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Pallbearers were John M. Byrd, T. M. Phillips, O. E. Varnado, Dr. Charlie B. Tramel, Bill Hanna Jr., O. E. Williams Jr., J. S. Pickett Jr., and Rodney Crews. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Pearson, Cliff Massingill, Tom Williams, John Blake Jr., Billy Gibson, Dr. Fred Thomas, Jeff Spier, Martin Abington, J. T. Dees Jr., Joe Greeson, and Joe Pierson.
