He was a 1941 graduate of Many High School, and a 149 graduate of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. Survivors include his widow, Mary Levee Abington of Baton Rouge; his father, Douglas C. Abington of Many; two daughters, Beth Abington, and Camille Abington Harrington, both of Lafayette; two sons, Stephen Douglas Abington, and Rodney C. Abington, both of Baton Rouge; a sister, Mrs. Kerlin Sutton of Natchitoches; and a brother, Leonard (Pete) Abington of Many. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, March 17, at the Rabenhorst Funeral Home in Baton Rouge, with the Rev. Tommy French, and the Rev. Perry Webb officiating. Services were also held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 18, at the First Baptist Church of Many, with the Rev. Boll Rose, and Dr. Rod Smith officiating. Burial was in the Many Cemetery, under the direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Mayor W. T. Hanna Jr. of Shreveport, Bob McNair of Houston, Tex., Buddy Dees of Many, John (Red) Dees of Ferriday, Tom Fore Phillips of Baton Rouge, Jack McDonald of Baton Rouge, Buck Anderson of DeRidder, and Charles McDuff of Lafayette. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Leon Mirchell, Bud Wright, J. S. Pickett Sr., Dr. Charley B. Tramel, Mike Pearson, Clinton Davis, and Cliff Massingill, all of Many, Cary Johnson, and Curtis Gullett of Natchitoches, Buddy Skelly of New Orleans, and Steven Levee, and Ross Levee, both of Mandeville.
