Achord Sr., 77, of Zwolle, died Friday, Feb. 12, at Heritage Manor in Napoleonville. Mr. Achord, a retired instrument technician with Exxon, was a native of Baton Rouge. A U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Zwolle, K. C. Council 4818 in Zwolle, Zwolle-Ebarb VFW Post 5187. Funeral services were held at 12 noon, Monday, Feb. 15, at Welsh Funeral Home Chapel, with interment following at Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Baton Rouge. Father Maynard Hurst officiated. Survivors include his widow, Jeanette "Jan" Achord; stepmother, Josephine Achord; two daughters, Terry Nabi of Cedar Park, Texas, and Becky Ballien and her husband Gary of Baker; five sons and spouses, Lester and Jo Ann Achord Jr., Ricky and Linda Achord, all of Baton Rouge, David "Randy" and Dewanna Achord of Napoleonville, Walter "Dub" Achord of Natchez, Miss., and Mike and Marsha Achord of Marion, Ill.; three brothers, Leighton, and Elgene Achord of Baton Rouge, and Chester Achord Jr. of Springfield; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. Mr. Achord was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and Chester Achord Sr.; one sister, Verna Raborn; and one brother, Jerome Achord. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Lester Achord III, Steven, Russell, Dale, and Mikey Achord, and Lynn and Sharif Nabi. Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters, Lisa Pitts, Regina Breard, Misty Fuller, Danielle Holloway, Sheri Moss, and Christina Achord.
