Aten 25 Feb 1949 - Funeral rites for Willie J. Aten, age 75 years, who died in Montgomery hospital, Conroe, Texas Sunday, Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. after a lengthy illness, were held from First Methodist church, Converse, at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. H. T. Isgitt, pastor, officiating assisted by Rev. Jerry Schmucker, pastor Converse Baptist church, and Rev. S. M. Mullkey, pastor Zwolle Baptist church. Mr. Aten, a native of Sabine parish, was the son of the late W. M. Aten and the late Mrs. Nan Tyler Aten. He was a member of Bayou Scie Methodist church and was loved by all who knew him. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ada Chandler Aten; four sons, Woodrow W. Aten, Waynesboro, Miss., Rayford of Conroe, Texas, Bill of Slaten, Texas, Rufus of Hobbs, N. M., six daughters, Mrs. Katie Clary, Clovis, N. M., Mrs. Pearl Jordon, Conroe, Texas, Mrs. Ida Russell, Herlong, Calif., Mrs. Thelma Tatum, Converse, Mrs. Opal Shoalmire, Waynesboro, Miss., Mrs. Lois Hill, Cleburne, Texas, three sisters, Mrs. Ellen Russell, Bayou Scie, Mrs. Mary Brown, Mrs. Burt Reid, Lamesa, Texas; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were nephews; Wilbert Russell, Hearold Russell, Tilmon Russell, Jack Brown, Riley Brown, Harmon Brown. Interment was in Bayou Scie cemetery under direction Drewitt funeral home, Mansfield.
