Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 15, at Chapel of Sallie Lipsey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Wiley officiating. Interment followed at 2 p.m., at Bayou Scie Cemetery near Many, with the Rev. Adrian Fairchild officiating. Mrs. Aten was born in Ruskville on Dec. 18, 1919, to Lawrence and Annie Elizabeth Jackson Morrison. She married Woodrow "Mr. Woody" Aten on June 26, 1941. Mrs. Aten moved from Belle Chase, and came to Panola County in January 1977. She was a member of DeBerry Baptist Church in DeBerry, Texas. Survivors include one daughter, Rebecca Dawson, and husband, C. J. of DeBerry, Texas; three grandchildren, Richard Dawson, Shane, and Mandy Dawson, all of Hope, Ark., and Crystal Dawson of DeBerry; one great grandchild, Arlen Dawson of Prescott, Ark.; one aunt, Ann Jackson of Waskom; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Aten was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow, on April 20, 2000; daughter, Priscilla, November, 1949; and sister, Janie Greer of Shreveport. The family request that a special thanks be given to Mrs. Aten's sitters, Gwen Harris, and Carolyn Flakes, and the nurses and aides of Hospice to East Texas, and Home Health aide Mary, and nurse Doris.
