"Bill" Alford Funeral services were held for Mr. W. C. "Bill" Alford, 89, at 2 p.m., on Sunday, March 5, 1995, at Alford Heights Baptist Church. Officiating the services were Rev. Jeff Hoffman, Rev. Earl Marr, and Rev. Charles Luke. Interment followed in the Fort Jesup Cemetery, under the direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Mr. Alford was born on November 13, 1905, on Old Presley Place on Middle Creek Road near Many, to Molly Smith and Christopher Alford. Mr. Alford married DeVara Skinner on July 31, 1936, in Mount Carmel. Mr. Alford worked 30 years in the oil fields throughout south Louisiana. He was employed as a janitor at Many High School. He also farmed and raised cattle in Sabine Parish for many years. Mr. Alford was a member of Alford Heights Baptist Church. He is survived by one son, Charles Alford and his wife Pattie Veuleman Alford of Baton Rouge; one daughter, Beth Martin and her husband; three grandchildren, Staci, and Kevin Alford of Baton Rouge, and Jared Lapp of Many; one brother, Truman Alford and his wife Margaret of Lincolnshire, Ill.; two sisters-in-law, DeVanda Skinner Alford, and Eula Byrd Alford, both of Many, and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Dean Crittenden, Tommy Koss, Butch Manasco, Kevin Alford, Jared Lapp, and Thurman Ritter. Honorary pallbearers were Men's Sunday School Class of Alford Heights Baptist Church, Oscar Alford, Marvin Adams,. J. J. Koss, and Burt Smith.
