All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Eula Mae Alford (Photo) Funeral services for Eula Mae Alford were held Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997, at 10 a.m., at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating was Rev. Charles D. Luke. Interment was in Ft. Jesup Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Mrs. Alford died Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Summitt Hospital in Bossier City. The former Miss Eula Mae Byrd was the last surviving child of the ten children of Lafayette Washington Byrd and Martha Ann Hardin Byrd. Mrs. Alford was born Aug. 30, 1900, in Mt. Carmel Community. She died at the age of 96. Until Thanksgiving, 1996, she lived by herself in the family home on Fisher Rd. Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Alford worked at Peason Sawmill, and with other logging companies in Kissimee, Fla. Mrs. Alford managed the old McNeely Hotel in Many for several years, and was a popular resident of Many. At least two of her siblings attended college through her generosity. She married Floyd Alford, Dec. 27, 1945. they lived the remainder of their lives in Many. Mrs. Alford was a member of the Sabine Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Order of the Eastern Star, chapter 3, Florien, and the Alford Heights Baptist Church. She was a former Worthy Matron for the Peason Eastern Star Chapter. Mrs. Alford was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Floyd Alford, who died in February, 1974; and by nine siblings, Julia Catherine Davis, Joseph W. Byrd, Effie Oxley, Emma Oxley, Luther Byrd, Lula Ross, Pearl Patrick, Ruth Enis, and Oma Chance. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, many of whom still reside in Many. Mrs. Alford was cared for in her later years by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews.
