All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Mrs. Velma Thatch Alford (Photo) Mrs. Velma Thatch Alford died April 24, at 6:30 p.m., in a Many hospital, after a long illness. She was the wife of W. Roy Alford, former Superintendent of Sabine Parish Schools. A native of Eastabuchie, Mess., she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Thatch. Mrs. Alford attended Blue Mountain College, and Mississippi Woman's College, and received her degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. She taught for a number of years in Mississippi and Louisiana. Before retirement, she served for 12 years as Supervisor of Adult Education of Sabine Parish. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, an organization of Key Women teachers. Mrs. Alford was a member of the First Baptist Church of Many. Survivors are her husband; a sister, Mrs. Durwood Hinton; and a brother, Thomas Thatch of Eastabuchie, Miss.; a daughter, Nancy Carolyn Alford, preceded her in death, several years ago. Funeral services were held at the Many First Baptist Church, Thursday, April 26, with the Rev. Perry Lassiter officiating. Burial was in the Ft. Jesup Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Pallbearers were W. C. Alford, Truman Alford, Oscar Alford, Brue Alford, J. M. Gandy, L. B. Skinner, Clark Pouncy, and Wiley Cummings.
